What is a teen psychiatrist?
A board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist is a physician trained and certified to treat teens with mental health, behavioral, and sleep issues. That includes things like depression, anxiety, family issues, behavioral issues and issues in school.
Can a psychiatrist prescribe medications?
Yes, our psychiatrists can prescribe medications if they are needed to help your teen with their mental health. We also look at all possible treatments other than medication such as therapy, counselling, nutrition, sleep, and other things that may help your child get better.
What if my teen doesn’t want to see a psychiatrist?
It often helps to set up an initial consultation with the teen to help them understand what a psychiatrist does and how it can help them with their relationships, family, and health. Child and adolescent trained psychiatrists know how to communicate with teens and opening up a first conversation can often help to get them to consider the help.
